We are spiritually parched when we are separated from God. Just as our thirst can preoccupy us and become our sole focus, the spiritual thirst for God can grow into an ache within us. The first step to solving any problem is admitting it exists. You've got a God-shaped hole in your heart – so fill it with what it's meant to be filled with. With Jesus. In John 7, Jesus says, Whoever is thirsty should come to me, and whoever believes in me should drink.." (John 7:37-38). When God's salvation comes, miraculous provision comes with it. And as we go to Him, he'll begin to change us, he'll quench that spiritual thirst, and we'll learn the true satisfaction that can only come from Jesus.
We are physically parched when we experience inequality in attaining vital resources such as food, water, health services, clothing, and shelter. According to Word Bank, the World Bank said that around 3.4 billion people still struggle to meet basic needs. And in America, Researchers at Brandeis University found 35% of American families do not meet the "basic family needs budget" — the amount needed to afford rent, food, transportation, medical care, and minimal household expenses — despite working full-time year-round. And the economic situation is even more dire for marginalized populations such as prisoners, sex-trafficked victims, refugees, orphans, and the homeless.
